I think this can be solved if the "Scope" of the searches were to include a new scope called "Selection."
This would enable a user to highlight a block of code and then perform a search and replace on a pattern using the existing single line search, but in a very concentrated area so that you would not need to implement multi-line searches. If you perform global search and replace, Regex is safer especially when dealing with multi-developer projects.
