The CF Administrator interface works great for this, with a couple of minor
caveats. I generally use this now, although I'm comfortable with doing it in
the JMC as well. What used to take me half an hour, I can do in five
minutes, and I like that.

When you use the CF Administrator to do this, you'll have already installed
CF in multiserver mode, so you'll have one instance to start. You won't be
able to use this instance as part of your cluster; you can just use it to
create your cluster, the cluster members, and manage the cluster and its
members.

All of your cluster members will be created with the same EAR file, which
will be a teensy bit different from the one deployed in the original
instance.
