I took on a client that is trying to build a CF web application hitting
their Visual Foxpro db. I can't tell you how frustrating this is compared to
working with MSSQL, Oracle, MySQL, even Access! I have a VERY experienced
MSSQL developer helping with the project, but neither of us can get much
done here. It seems like every time we get working on something for an hour,
something happens where the database is unreachable. It's a P4
2.8GHz2003 server with 4G of RAM. I understand there's some VFP
setting that gives
"exclusive" access to one application or another and that needs to be turned
off. I've done that occasionally to regain access to the db. But that isn't
always the problem.

If anyone has experience using VFP please give us some pointers on how to
work. We ended up throwing together a little web form to throw queries at
the datasource as neither of us can figure out the VFP UI. If you have an
ODBC connection to the VFP database in CF, would a utility like ER Studio or
AquaData Studio be able to interact with
it via ODBC? It's frustrating as I have no idea how to look at the schema.

So if anyone has a Visual Foxpro for Dummies book laying around they would
like to sell...
