Yeah, Akismet is probably the best all-round solution for weblog 
comments/trackbacks at the moment.

But not sure about using it as a general solution though.
I've tried getting it working with discussion forums but it didn't give useful 
results (stopped my own clearly non-spam posts whilst still allowing blatant 
link-spam through)

And, with it being a remote service, I'd be wary of using it for anything where 
privacy might be an issue.
