While that article is informative, I disagree with its conclusion. I think that the Microsoft solution is superior for users, who don't care about preserving font information, but who do care about readability. In addition, while it might not make much difference on a desktop, it does make a big difference on smaller or nontraditional displays (PDAs, palmtops, etc).
