>The word "customized" is the key to what is both presently going on and
to the future. Almost every web app that I've ever built is built so
that my customers can do their work in exactly the way they want to,
instead of buying some off-the-shelf system that doesn't do everything
they want or forces them to change their processes.

Not only does the customization allow the site to work for the
customers, it also ensures that the site "does not" work like any/every
other site.

Being in higher-education, we have seen many instances where a
university has implemented a portal that was produced by the company
that created their main system. (Datatel, Banner, etc) However, many
of these schools only went so far as to slap their logo and colors on
the portal. The result was that their web site looked, and acted, like
hundreds of other web sites.
