Are you sure you're using the function int() ?
I tried, and if the argument is not a number, the function does not 
return 0, but throw an error.
And if the parameter is not an integer, but a real number, it return the 
closest integer value,
not 0, It is the purpose of the function.

You probably meant using the val() function.
