The best use of modeling that I've experienced was in early design or in
late-stage design "capture" (so, documenting).  There are certainly some
useful diagram types that could apply to web apps (I think the Activity
and Interaction diagrams, perhaps), and I've always been a fan of the
Sequence Diagram (when the situation is complex enough to require a very
clear idea of what has to happen, and who will do it).  

I haven't seen many cases, web or otherwise, where the code generator
did anything all that useful.  

You mileage may vary.
