However you define "complicated", it's far more complicated than just using what is built in to cfgrid. Furthermore, the custom renderer examples are just changing the format of the displayed grid, and don't even touch on the issue of building up your own data (based on a ColdFusion structure) in JavaScript or XML and feeding that to the grid, which is an entirely separate issue.
