am i correct to assume you are trying to display your text in a textarea?
if it is not an FCKEditor-enabled text area, then it will not render 
your <br />...
you will have to replace all <br /> with #chr(13)# (or is it #chr(10)#? 
or both?... can't remember right now - too early in the morning here...) 
to show correct linebreaks
