Problem solved with the help of Adobe support. Apparently, my issue was caused due to a change in behavior in the db2 driver from Data Direct. It now attempts to reconnect a default of 5 times if the first connection attempt fails. I added an optional connection parameter "ConnectionRetryCount=0" to prevent it from doing that.
Seems awfully silly to retry connections on a bad username and password. If the provided credentials were not correct the first time, they're not gonna be correct the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th times.
