As they say in the classics, rotsa ruck pal! The USA might be standard
about it, but in some parts of the world they don't have it. Others it's
a moving feast. The closer a place is to the equator, the less is the
difference between daylight hours in midyear and year end. In fact in a
lot of places (e.g. big chunks of Asia and as far asouth as Darwin) they
dont even have 4 seasons.
Every year, the Queenslanders in Australia complain about daylight saving,
saying they don't need it and they don't have it, but the people towards
the south of Queensland say they need it. It's a regular argument.
Then the New South Wales government sets a date for the change, and the
Victorians further south act independent and set another date. And the
poor buggers living on the border between NSW and VIC have a town with two
time zones and no one knows if the 8.30 bus is coming at the NSW 8.30 or
the Victorian 8.30.
Then there's the Olympics, and NBC declaring that summer starts here 8
weeks earlier than it has always. Apparently they gave the sun a little
nudge along so it moved a bit quicker. So NBC put us all in summer time
early this year. I guess that was so they could play the Olympics 18
hours delayed instead of 19. (or is that 17?)
And don't forget the little town in the middle of the Nullarbor plan that
doesnt like either West Australia or South Australia so they have their
own time zone, 30 minutes away from both of them.
Confused? You won't be after this next episode of "SOAP"
Basically, I just wait till they start reminding us on the radio to put
our clocks forward (or is it backward) and hope the radio DJ isn't too
much of a moron and gets it right. There's a hell of a lot of clocks in
our household to correct if I get it the wrong way round.
Cheers,
