The web server integration module is the piece of software that passes requests from your web server to CF. It's installed using wsconfig.jar. In the case of IIS, wsconfig.jar installs a DLL or two that get loaded into the IIS memory space as ISAPI filters/extensions/wildcard extensions (depending on the versions of IIS and CF in question).
