(*nods*) this is true and I looked into that as an option, however in the end it became extremely clear that it was less time (and therefore money) to install TinyMCE and a third-party image manager than modify the richtext implementation.
Obviously I'd love to be able to go back and change it later on, however given the current budget and schedule that'll be a while.
