try imageCFC from opensourcecf.org/riaforge i am not 100% sure it runs on linux with no problems, but it uses only CF's underlying Java, nothing else, no dll's or anything... so it probably 'should' work on linux mind you, though, the resize quality is quiet a bit removed from superb - CF8's cfimage totally kicks a#$ in comparison.
