I have always been able to convince clients to use <a href="mailto:?subject=xxx&body=yyy";>Mail to friend</a> The main argument is that this offers a better chance of being delivered and read. You use the actual e-mail client of your visitor so you get his sender details with a better chance at being whitelisted and being read by the recipient as well as the address book / autocomplete of the mail client.
