No, don't get me wrong... I look for quality, open-source solutions
that *perfectly* fit my needs first.

However, if I can't find such a solution that matches my requirements
*perfectly*, then I have to be willing to pay for something that does
or hire someone to build it for me.

No one can have strict requirements that says a solution *must be*
free and exactly what I want, as you said your boss did.  If you can't 
find something that's "free" *and* "perfectly meets your requirements",
then a non-free solution has to be considered.

I'm just saying that the requirements of "free" and "exactly what I want"
may not be achievable at the same time.  It should be "exactly what I want"
and "free, if possible".

The "if possible" part is what I'm arguing for...
