Is there resizing going on? If so, what are you using to resize it? I made a photo gallery plugin for Farcry 3 and had this error a few times. If I went into Fireworks and did "Save As" the image than worked fine. The images that I had problems with came from .TIF and we used a batch conversion program to change them over.
