What we found that worked really well, better than expected, is windows
2000
mac services. MUCH better... not perfect, but much better.

I never had much luck with Mac Services. Instead, we switched to a
product
called, oddly enough, DAVE. It's a Mac SMB client, so you don't need any
special stuff on your NT servers.
