Hello Bill and listers,
Remember that those who use assistive technology wish to visit your site
and participate in your forums as well. Currently these products such as
screen reading software used by blind individuals like myself cannot read
those images rendering them useless to us. Audio CAPTCHAS are one solution,
but they still lock out those who are both blind and deaf. A word
verification system is far better as the words or question visitors must
answer to post their comments can be read both audibly and tactually
allowing those in the blind community to have full access to your Web site.
Keep in mind too that there is now at lease one Web site that can scan
CAPTCHA images and read them to permit visitors to gain access to Web sites
that use them. One of these is:
http://www.captchakiller.com
This has enabled us to bust CAPTCHAS, but it's still a convoluted
and time-consuming process. Like you we simply want to get the information
you share online or participate in your Web communities with a minimal
amount of fuss and trouble. A verification method should be employed that
permits you to protect sensitive content while not denying members of
specific populations of our society the right to access them.

Subject: reply form with human verification
Hi All,
I need to create a "reply" or "comment" form whereby individuals can respond
to article postings. This would be similar to a blog, I guess, except that
these are actually articles of some substance. The idea is that the article
will be posted, then readers can write comments, criticism, etc. of the
article. Then, the next view of the article will show the comment. For the
most part I have no problem figuring out how this would work except for two
things:
1) How do we assure that only humans are responding? Many sites post an
image with hard to read number/letter sequences and ask that you type in
what you see. Is something like this necessary? If so, how do we generate
the images, then verify the response?
2) How do we handle html in the response? Perhaps we only allow a limited
subset of html, such as bold, italicize, and a few others? If so, what
should be allowed? Does anyone know of examples where embedded html is
validated?
I've tried googling for answers to these questions, but I am finding it
difficult to get an answer, likely because I don't know what search terms to
use.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Bill
