A probably better idea, if you can modify the table, would be to have
two fields in the table, ie:
- objectiveNo
- parentObjective
Then your list 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.0, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, would be
represented by
objectiveNo parentObjective
0 1
1 1
2 1
3 1
0 2
1 2
2 2
3 2
Then grouping and summing objectives by parent No would be a breeze in SQL.
