Ok, that was the problem! Just before where I do a call to the function in the cfc I did a cfinvoke and called on the resultvar of that operation. The init() method had not been invoked.
I did this because Godaddy is not supporting Createobject() so I had to rewrite parts of the app and obviously didn't bother to rewrite all... :S Anyway thanks for pointing me to this!
