How are you getting the keys that surround the letter? Would you make a list of the keys?
Becuase then you could do an array of lists so that each key had it's own position in the arrray that contained the list of keys surrounding it, then just loop the list and do a replace on it A little time consuming to build the list I am sure, but that should work.
