If I understand correctly when a user clicks on a column in your grid you want focus to change to a specific tab?
You should be able to get a reference to the underlying ext object and then get a reference to the column model, once you have the reference you can add event listeners to do what you want. You will probably have to do your reconfiguring of the grid using the ajaxOnLoad() function to call your reconfigure js function.
