Ok, so I have experience in connecting several different payment gateways to
my clients sites so that they can process CC transactions. But, it seems
when it comes to my own website, I need a little advice on which company has
the best system.
I am putting together a very simple website that sells about 5 digital
products, all priced about the same. Most transactions will be below $10
per purchase. Digital means no shipping or taxes (yet).
I have looked at (and am not limited to these)
1. Paypal (standard/pro):
The upside is that this company offers their own payment system in
addition to credit cards, etc (basically the customer can decide on any
number of payment choices), as well as this is a well known company.
The downside is that this company charges a bunch for their fees
(not ridiculous, but more expensive)
2. Google Checkout:
The upside is that this company is well known and will 'comp' the
fees up to a certain amount (determined by your adwords usage). Even if I
don't use adwords (yeah right!), they charge about 65% of the fees that
Paypal charges.
The downside is that they are new into this arena and they are well
known for updating their APIs and systems regularly (not necessarily a bad
thing, but... If I fall behind on updating the code, I could suddenly have a
non-working cart).
3. Auth.net:
Their systems are by far the easiest to integrate with and they have
been around for a fairly long time.
I haven't spoken to their representative yet, but I am pretty sure
their fees are going to be 'up there'. Their site mentions fee 'types'
without % or $ amounts, just 'call us for pricing'.
Does anyone have a line on any other processors that I have missed and
should be considering? Does anyone have any additional insight into the
ones that I have listed above?
