You should have onError() in place to handle runtime errors, and also make sure you have the site-wide error handler in CF Admin to handle compile time errors (like syntax errors).
Also in CF Admin, don't forget to specify the missing template handler. Setting these up would prevent unexpected displays of the regular exception screen.
