I've had it happen where it did *not* affect IE and FF the same. But it doesn't sound like you even talking to Apache, port 8300 is usually talking to JRun's built in http server.
What happens in IE, does it redirect you somewhere different or does the page just display properly at the http://localhost:8300/ URL?
