Well, I got this problem resolved.  

I was using a .tif file for my image.  After converting the image to a .jpg and 
altering the reports to use the .jpg instead, <cfprint> outputs the image with 
a nice sharp/crisp look.  The report looks great in Acrobat and Reader as well.
