Of course, looking at what you're actually doing, could you not just do this:
<cfoutput>#rereplace( InputString , "^.*?([0-9]{7}).*$" , "\1" )#</cfoutput>
(where InputString is your ";00002720?", or whatever the real input is)
That should result in removing everything except the first set of seven digits
- no arrays involved.
