Thanks all for your help! I feel like I am almost there. I am using four "." between the linked server name and the tablename but getting an error "Contains more than the maximum number of prefixes. Maximum is 3" .. I then dropped it to 3 "." and got an authentication error. I think I understnad the dot syntax but was thinking it should be three rather than 4.
