Yes, it was YUI, which was the root of a lot of Ext at the time (Ext 1.1 is the source of the cfajax components, with the exception of the richtexteditor). Ext 2 completely rewrote that component architecture. The Samples & Demos pages have several examples of Autocomplete functionality (look at the ComboBox examples, as well as the custom search).
