Every once in a while the connector will flake out and mess up the Apache config file (I think). I am not sure what happens, I have never looked. Generally I just run the server connector again and what ever problem that was happning fixes itself.
I have been using XAMPP for years (countless installs) and have never ran into fubar situation. I just installed CF 9 with XAMPP. What I do when doing a fresh install of CF with XAMPP: 1) Unzip XAMPP and run the setup_xampp.bat 2) back up the httpd.conf in xampp\apache\conf\ 3) install CF and run the connector during install If something screws up I restore the httpd.conf and run the server connector again This generally works every time. Like Brad menationed, if you still run into problems I would take a look at the log files in xampp\apache\logs\ btw: CF should make a back up of httpd.conf but I make back ups just in case.
