There is that. Although I was thinking more particularly about sheet music and things like timing, how 4/4 makes the meaning of the placement of the notes in the rest of the stanza different than 2/2 -- you'll have to forgive me if I'm butchering the lingo, it's been years since I've played a piano. ;) But spoken language is similar in that context can often dramatically change the interpretation of the individual words.
