Just a wild thought. Why not use a Nouns list (there are many publicly available) and then use that to determine keywords in the news releases. You can remove duplicates, but you could also include a rank systems for each noun found in the new article. +1 for every time the noun is in the news release and +1 if it is in the title. I think with some experimenting and tweaking you could make a pretty good system for searching.
