Just another direction to think about is Flex. I've been a CF'er full-time since 1996 (V 3.1), so believe me when I say I LOVE CF!
Recently I've taken another look at Flex (after dismissing it in the early days as ridiculously expensive). It is now VERY inexpensive and I am blown away at how much easier the GUI side of things is (no more cross-browser issues for starters). Combine it with CF webservices in the back and you are ready to go! Oh wait...you can also write AIR apps (although you may need a local DB and no CF webservices)....same code and you can now deploy to the desktop or many smartphones....especially Android enabled. Anyways.....just another place to take a peak....I for one can't believe it took me so long to get into Flex.
