Why not save a second copy then?

You could fetch them with CFHTTP, then serve them again, but that
might be more trouble than it's worth. But beyond that, it's not
immediately obvious where those images are, or even whether they're
stored on the filesystem at all - there's no reason they couldn't just
be stored in memory.
