Well, this is kind of true, but not entirely true. CF uses a third-party Java-COM library from JIntegra. They don't make a 64-bit version of their library. There's nothing (that I know of) stopping them from doing that right now, but you're correct that COM is basically a dead-end - so it makes financial sense for JIntegra not to pursue this.
