I find it useful, when reading mailing lists, to keep in mind that most participants have good intentions, even if they don't express those intentions that well. In Russ' defense - and I find myself a bit nonplussed just typing that - your comment was not about namespaces, it was about countries: some countries being more strict than the US when it comes to domain registration. But that's not an accurate statement because it doesn't have anything to do with the country in this case. Very few organizations in the US use the .us namespace. But that namespace is regulated more strictly than the gTLDs (although perhaps less strictly than .com.au, as it is possible to get "domain hack" domains within the .us namespace).
