Hi Thanks for your reply, I am investigating your thoughts now, my definition of special characters are accents, cedil's, grave's etc.
The characters display correctly on the web page being served, but when i put them into a csv doc I get the glyph problem. The database is sql set at Latin1_General_CI_AS.
