Hello Greg.
Thanks for your feedback. I am not sure when you purchased UD1, but I am
fairly certain that there is a policy to give customers free upgrades to UD4
if they purchased UD1 near the UD4 announcement/release. I am not sure
exactly what the cut-off date is, but I can find this out for you if you
would like. If you bought UD1 outside this date, there should have been a
reasonable upgrade price to UD4 (once again, I do not know the specifics).
Can you let me know what free gift we were supposed to give the attendees?
I will forward this message to the proper employee to take care of this
problem, my sincerest apologies.
UltraDev 4 has a new code-view specifically developed for engineers like you
that prefer to hand-code most of the time. If you could tell me why
hand-coding in studio is more efficient than hand-coding in UltraDev 4, I
would be very interested. I'm sorry that you have chosen to turn your back
on Macromedia's web authoring tools. More than any other company I have
worked for, Macromedia works tirelessly in trying to be tuned into the needs
and concerns of its customers. As an Engineer, I know that part of every
development cycle, we reach out to our customer base to find out what it is
they need from our products, and what issues do they have with our existing
products. I also know that the engineers here are encouraged to directly
answer questions from our customers that are posted to our message boards.
Additionally, engineers are required to spend time answering tech-support
calls. All of this is to ensure that the engineers that are designing the
tools are intimately aware of customer needs and concerns.
I sincerely hope you will give Macromedia and UltraDev another look. I
personally believe that UD4 is light years ahead of UD1.
Thanks again,
- Lawrence Teschmacher

I have UD1 and am actually kind of upset that you guys put out a new version
so quickly after I bought my copy. It would have been nice to know a newer
version was in the works and since CF Studio is so much better than UD1, I
do not plan on upgrading or switching over to UD4. I saw the NDA of UD4 at
the Allaire Dev Conference back in November 2000 and am still waiting for my
"free gift" that you guys were supposed to send the attendees as well. Due
to these factors I have turned my back on Macromedia for web authoring all
together (I am not . From what I saw at the NDA, I wasn't too impressed
with the code editor anyway and I've found after using Studio hand coding
everything is much more efficient. Much nicer than even being able to
"draw" your own tables like UD4 can.
