Yes but he's talking about arbitrary files I think - supporting documents. I think the first step is to identify what document types you wish to support. If you can specify only PDF's and images for example, you could make this work with CF natively. If you have to do (for example) word doc conversions, then you will need to use a 3rd party jar file or tool to do the conversion to PDF and then merge the results. Doable, but a lot trickier :)
