I think what they will be supporting is native wire protocols. This will
remove the need for client librarires installed on the web server (ie
Oracle client libraries, Sybase, etc). These should be licensed from
Merant. The idea is they are talking directly to the database without the
extra layer, therefore faster. Here is a link to the Merant site talking

This was mentioned at the developer conference and the type 4 drivers are
now shipping in the latest JRUN builds. They mentioned that this
"shouldn't" drive up the price of the CF software.
