There's a HUGE reason to know the specific format;

Here in the UK we use dd/mm/yyyy, in the US they use mm/dd/yyyy

So, if you don't care what the format is, what is 04/02/2001
Is it the 4th of February 2001, or the 2nd of April 2001?

I always ask for dates in "d mmm yyyy" or "mmm d yyyy", that way you KNOW
where the month is, and it doesn't matter if they type it in the other
format...
