this is basically english, well roman letters (a,bc,x,y,z)
anyways.

nope, thai doesn't require UNICODE per say but if you
want to display more than a few langauges on one page, 
then yes these would all have to be UNICODEd. for
instance it wouldbe ok if you tried to display thai & english
on the same  page without UNICODE as they don't overlap
(thai starts at char 160). but french & thai would cause
problems, these overlap without UNICODE.
