I have been reading some things on administrating the cold fusion server (for work which is on an NT network) and have some questions I hope some folks would be kind enough to shed some light on. In the ODBC link where you tell CF where the MS database is: The Default Login option. When would this be used exactly? I know that on another account I have that runs on a SQL server/database I have to enter a username and password in the CFQUERY line in order for it to access the database data. Is this the only time this is used? I tried entering in a username and password here for test purposes to access a MS access database but it had no effect. The data showed up with no problem. I assume this is because the MS Access database I was using does not use a username/password? If it did I'm sure it would ask me what I wanted it to be when I set this database up? (Maybe a SQL database?) The Cold Fusion Login Option: I assume this is only used when you are trying to make CF access a remote database on another server and it needs the username/password for that server in order to access the database? Would there be any other reason for this option to be used? I'm particularly interested in knowing more about this option due to the fact that I am working on having our CF server access a database in our network from a server that is not the actual CF server. The different between setting up the connection to your database file from the 'Database File' option or 'System Database': When would I want to use one over the other. Guess I'm looking for an example of the both in use in laymen's terms. It says in the documentation that access data sources created with coldfusion and specified as a database file are automatically created as system databases. Not sure what they mean by SYSTEM DATABASE and ACCESS DATABASES CREATED WITH COLD FUSION. How does cold fusion CREATE a database itself. I'm very interested in getting some more information on the 'Database File' & or 'System Database' option and best practices. Finally, the MAPPINGS link under server. Why would someone want to change the mapping? Can someone give me an example of this in use? That's all for now.. Your help is appreciated!!
