Well, after over a week back and forth with Microsoft's sales and
licensing reps, they've come to the conclusion that since I'm not
hosting any standalone apps that will be running on SQL Server, i.e.,
instead the data will be accessed through a web browser, I don't need
to be licensed commercially or as an ASP. I can't say that I have a
clue what they're talking about, as apparently they're not sure
either, but at least if I end up in court I can say under oath that I
talked to their licensing reps for over a week and they said "Go for
it. Hosting SQL databases for internet access is NOT considered
commercial hosting so all you need is CALs and the processor license
covers those.".
