One of the problems with MySQL is the lack of Transaction support, now 
apparently they plan to add this support in future upgrades.

If you want to run your DB on Linux I would look into Sybase. You can 
download a fully function version for free, I am not sure what the licence 
restrictions are there.

Otherwise I would use Linux for my Webserver and Wint2K and SQL Server for 
the DB.
