The core idea behind the .NET initiative, as I understand it, is to create a
framework which facilitates the creation of applications which can be
accessed locally or over the network. In this case, "network" can mean
anything from a small LAN to the Internet. SOAP, DCOM+, etc., come to mind
as underlying technologies. The .NET series of server products are supposed
to facilitate the creation, distribution, and support of .NET applications.

Microsoft's latest and greatest.

As I understand it's more a suite or platform than a single product. VB is
now VB7.net, C#.net stuff like that. It's now Visual Studio.net, which
actually is a pretty nice app, still in beta, you can write a VB app, or a
C# app or whatever else from the same IDE..

That's about all I know, it's not something I'm following all that closely,
but I work with a few guys that are watching it and playing with the Beta.
