I got suckered into seeing a 'demonstration' on this. This is what I
got out of it. .NET takes the Java idea a few steps further. My
$0.02 in a nutshell: Program your app in VB, VBScript, C#, etc..., or
a combo of these, compile to a CLR(AKA Common Language Runtime). The
CLR code can then be run on any platform M$ has ported a VM to. Note
that Java is not one of the languages M$ supports in the .NET schtuff.
If you keep up on the news, you would know why.

Worst outcome of all this, in the future you will not be purchasing
software from the evil empire, you get to really sign your life away
and RENT it!

Microsoft's latest and greatest.

As I understand it's more a suite or platform than a single product.
VB is
now VB7.net, C#.net stuff like that. It's now Visual Studio.net, which
actually is a pretty nice app, still in beta, you can write a VB app,
or a
C# app or whatever else from the same IDE..

That's about all I know, it's not something I'm following all that
closely,
but I work with a few guys that are watching it and playing with the
Beta.
