I'm no expert when it comes to Java, C++ or C#, but I think your guest
speaker was wrong. From what I can tell, while C# provides a lot of
functionality analogous to Java, it's overall more similar to C++. In any
case, learning either Java or C# means not only learning the language
syntax, but learning the class libraries - and they're going to be quite
different.
